After the huge success that the Xperia phones in recent times met with, Sony Ericsson is planning to assault the other segments as well and the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman is in contention to be one of the weapons to do so. This is due to the presence of the Walkman feature along with the usual Sony Ericsson features, which have been made better following the success of the Xperia phones. It has given the strategy that Sony Ericsson has been searching for a long time and it will be implemented in the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman as well.

This is going to shake up the mid-range smartphone industry and it could be partly down to the 3 inch capacitive display of the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman. It will not only provide a maximum resolution of 320 by 480 pixels, but it will also be able to resist any scratches due to the involvement of the same technology found in the Xperia Arc. It is highly unusual to get this feature in the mid-range smartphone segment, despite the usage of a touch screen display and one will have to resort to protective screens for their phones. This will be totally eliminated in the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman, which often is known for the Walkman feature.

It is undoubtedly one of the best features of the phone, but it is not the one feature that will be getting all the attention. This is due to the presence of the other features, most important of which will be the Android operating system. It is being offered in the 2.1 version, but Sony Ericsson has not revealed any details regarding the availability of the 2.2 or even the 2.3 version in the phone. However, the usage of the 600 MHz processor might mean that the user will have to be happy with the presence of this version rather than looking for the 2.3 version in the phone. This is not a too big sacrifice to make as the Android 2.1 operating system is regarded as one of the finest till now. It was also the operating system that finally brought the end of the domination by the Apple operating system in the mobile phone industry. Not only was this operating system extremely easy to use, but also came with a lot of applications as standard, which was not the case with other operating systems like Symbian and Apple iOS.

These made the Android 2.1 operating system incredibly successful and it will be present in the Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman along with the 168 MB of RAM. This might sound insufficient at first, but it is more than enough for the phone that offers a 3.15 megapixel camera as well. Internally, the phone will have 128 MB of memory and will be supporting up to 16 GB worth of memory cards. The Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman is expected to be available in the UK in the next few months.
