The Galaxy Gio was launched alongside three other Samsung handsets, the Fit, Mini and Ace, that all seek to replicate the success of the illustrious Galaxy S in a more affordable and petite form. All four handsets are fairly similar in specification with minor differences to physical appearances and some features such as the camera.

The Samsung Galaxy Gio comes with a gorgeous 3.2" TFT screen that is fully touch sensitive. The Galaxy Gio comes with an accelerometer so that you can automatically rotate the phone's interface. The Gio runs on Google Android 2.2 Froyo with Samsung's TouchWiz user interface on top. This is an excellent interface that was made famous on more high profile devices like the Galaxy S, and which allows for services such as Swype text support.

The Galaxy Gio comes with some excellent connectivity options on board including HSDPA and Wi-Fi which can provide you with internet access whenever you may need it. There are many great online features to put to good use here including email and instant messaging. The Galaxy Gio also comes with fantastic social networking integration for services like Facebook and Twitter.

With a YouTube app you can enjoy streaming video content from the popular website, and the Galaxy Gio comes with Picasa integration so that you can easily upload photos captured on the phone's cameras. The Galaxy Gio also comes with Google Talk support allowing you to chat away with friends.

The Galaxy Gio comes with a 3.15 megapixel camera with LED flash and autofocus as well as some excellent software features like geo-tagging. The camera also provides QVGA video recording at a nice frame rate of 15fps, although there is no secondary camera for video calling. Photos captured on the camera can be easily shared either through Picasa or Facebook.

The Galaxy Gio comes with some excellent entertainment options including great support for music and video with the phone's media player. There is 158MB internal storage space for media content, although this can be upgraded with 16GB microSD cards. Samsung have also included a 2GB microSD card with the phone for good measure. On top of this there is an FM radio with RDS included, so you can keep up to date with the latest music.

The Galaxy Gio also comes with a document editor, allowing you to update your spread sheet or report on the way to work, and also comes with an image editor for touching up photos captured on the camera.

The Galaxy Gio is an excellent phone for messaging and entertainment and is a superb little device for all round web browsing. While there is not as much on offer as with its more high profile cousin the Galaxy S, the Galaxy Gio stills crams an awful lot into such a small and affordable body. The Galaxy Gio was launched alongside the Samsung Galaxy Mini, Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Fit, which all share fairly similar specifications to the Galaxy Gio, and are worthy of consideration by anyone who is interested in this handset.
